Design Tools for Collaborative Building Groups

It is widely known that houses are in high demand and prices are sky high. Big real estate owners dominate the market, leaving little space for individual citizens with their dreams and ideals. What if we could start changing this? For example, by bringing together all those individuals with their dreams and ideas and support them to build a living place together?

For this project, we collaborate with the Amsterdam based companies OneArchitecture and Space & Matter. OneArchitecture is a design and planning firm, specialized in large-scale resilience planning and infrastructure. Space & Matter focuses on off- and online architectures to design and develop community focused environments and processes. Their dedicated group, CrowdBuilding, is specialized in building living spaces together with the future inhabitants.

Research approach

In this project, we contribute to this vision. By combining case studies, literature research, co-design and prototyping, we explore how to create online communities that are willing to build their dream home together. We currently study how online community building can be aided by design, to create trust and collaboration amongst members of the group.
